  • The wish of 100,000 Yeongdo District residents
Promotion Committee to promote the Yeongdo Line of the urban railroad launches
Signature campaign until June 10th

The construction of the Yeongdo Line, the biggest wish of 100,000 Yeongdo District residents, has received a positive sign. Yeongdo District, the only one of Busan's 16 districts and counties without an urban railroad, has been a stumbling block to the construction of an urban railroad because of its low profitability, although it is an essential element for connecting to the center of Busan.
In April last year, Yeongdo District began ordering feasibility studies for the Yeongdo transportation system improvement, and has since secured the justification to build the Yeongdo Line. And they are focusing all their efforts on improving the poor transportation environment in the area.
In order to better connect the disconnected transportation network and pioneer the correction of transportation inequality by hosting the Yeongdo Line, the ‘Promotion Committee for the Promotion of Urban Rail Yeongdo Line’ was launched on May 2 and held a launch ceremony to mark the beginning of its journey.
The launching ceremony was attended by more than 300 people, including Seung-hwan Cho, Member of Parliament-elect for Jungdo·Yeongdo District, Sung-min Ahn, Chairman of the Busan Metropolitan Assembly, and representatives of companies and organizations representing the region, in order to gather local efforts to host the Yeongdo Line.
The Promotion Committee was composed of more than 200 people, including representatives from major public institutions, schools, organizations, and companies, as well as the Promotion Committee, led by co-chairs such as the Yeongdo District mayor, the President of Korea Maritime & Ocean University, the President of Kosin University, the Director of the National Maritime Museum, and the Chairman of the Yeongdo District Residents' Autonomy Council.
The 'Promotion Committee for the Promotion of Urban Rail Yeongdo Line' plans to promote the need for and justification of the Yeongdo Line through a network of cooperation among residents, such as promoting a signature campaign, and helping the voices of local residents who want the Yeongdo Line to the city be heard.
As transportation inconveniences lead to inequality in all areas of society, economy, and education, policies to correct the imbalance are needed more than ever. The Yeongdo District mayor plans to make every effort to ensure that the Yeongdo Line is included in the 2nd Busan Metropolitan Urban Rail Network Construction Plan in order to resolve transportation inequality by connecting the region's disconnected transportation network through hosting the Yeongdo Line and to set the trend for balanced development between east and west in Busan.
